Dioceses and Bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church
New Syro-Malabar Diocese: Bhadravathi, Karnataka
The Vatican has formed a new diocese of Bhadravati under the Syro-Malabar Church. This diocese, erected on August 21, 2007, is the 27th diocese of the Syro-Malabar Church. The new diocese is in Shimoga district, and has been formed by bifurcating the diocese of Mananthavady in Kerala. The Bhadravathi diocese will encompass the Shimoga district of Karnataka, which till now was part of the Mananthavady diocese. The Bhadravathi diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Thalassery.
Rev Fr Joseph Erumachadath has been appointed as the first bishop of the diocese of Bhadravathi.
