You are in a neat, well-developed town. The traffic is smooth; people are very friendly, and they talk in a likable accent, very close to the Trichur tone. You pass by a stately Cathedral Church. As you journey on, you spot one church every other mile. The families are mostly middle class, and you notice that most people are engaged in their activities.
You are in the diocese of Irinjalakuda.
A big town in Trichur district, Irinjalakuda is home to decent and polished people and well-knit families. The society is well-educated and highly-cultured.
The diocese of Irinjalakuda was erected in 1978, bifurcating the diocese of Trichur. Mar James Pazhayattil was ordained as the first bishop of Irinjalakuda in 1978, and has been serving as bishop till today.
The Irinjalakuda diocese has a very high concentration of Syro-Malabar Catholics, and is one of those areas in Kerala with very high degree of Catholic population. There are about 48,000 Syro-Malabar families in the diocese, the number of the laity being close to 2,60,000.
People of Irinjalakkuda maintain strong family bonds and high spiritual values. The attachment between siblings is very robust and really exemplary. Traditional values and customs are also held in high esteem.
