Matrimonial Laws & Legal Information
Although there are a number of stipulated laws pertaining to marriage both by the State and by the Catholic Church, many people do not seem to be aware of these laws.
In this category, SyroMalabar.com will present the important laws on marriage and divorce/annullment stipulated by the State and the Church.
Marriageable age
The Roman Catholic Church's universal law stipulates the marriageable age as 14 years for girls and 16 years for boys. However, the Church also demands that marriages conform to the respective State's laws also. In India, the marriageable age for girls is 18; for boys, it is 21. Thus the marriageable age for any Catholic person in India also becomes the same as that set by the State.
More legal information will be published later in this category.
