Location and Setting of the Syro-Malabar Curia
Anyone making a visit to the Curia is in for a really enriching experience.
Location of the Curia
The Syro-Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Curia (the office of the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church) is located at Mount St Thomas near Kakkanad, Cochin, Kerala. It is by the side of the Kakkanad - Kizhakkambalam route, about 12 km distant from Ernakulam town. The location is not exactly Kakkanad junction; the bus stop is called Navodhaya Junction, about 2 Km from Kakkanad on the Kakkanad - Kizhakkambalam Road. That is, before Kakkanad enroute to Ernakulam, and after Kakkanad while coming from Ernakulam.
Setting & Environs
The setting of the Curia clearly justifies the name Mount St Thomas - it is located on a small hill at a very scenic locality, and the hill is named Mount St Thomas. The fact that Veega Land, the amusement park and picnic spot, is very near to Mount St Thomas gives an indication as to how beautiful the vicinity of the Curia is. If the place is very picturesque, the setting of the curia is even more idyllic - a well-maintained road inclined upwards leads to the Curia that is hundreds of feet above the sea level, the road being surrounded by plots full of trees and plantations. On reaching the hillock, you see the Curia (the headquarters of the Syro-Malabar Church), the St Thomas Christian Museum, gardens, and some cultivation.
