Christmas
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, the one true God and the saviour of the whole humanity.
Jesus, the Son of God, was born in Bethlehem. The Gospel according to Matthew and the Gospel according to Luke carry vivid accounts of the birth of Jesus and the events associated with Christmas.
The term "Christmas" is derived from the Old English phrase "Christes Maesse" that stands for the "Mass of Christ" or "Christ's Mass". The name Christmas is a contraction of the phrase "Christ's Mass".
Christmas is celebrated on December 25 every year. Celebrations include Christmas carols, midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, erection of Cribs, decorations and illuminations, exchange of gifts and greetings, fireworks, etc.
Word became flesh
Jesus' birth fulfilled a number of prophecies found in several biblical books that had been written hundreds of years before His birth.
Isaiah 7:14: Virgin birth - "A young woman who is pregnant will have a son and will name him 'Immanuel'."
Isaiah 11:1: King David's lineage - "A new king will arise from among David's descendants."
Micah 5:2: Jesus would be born in Bethlehem of Judah - "The Lord says, 'Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are one of the smallest towns in Judah, but out of you I will bring a ruler for Israel, whose family line goes back to ancient times."
Jeremiah 31:15: Herod would get the young children killed. (Corroborated by Matthew 2:17)
