Good Friday
"Father, in your hands I place my spirit." (Lk 23:46)
Good Friday is the Friday the Church observes the passion and death of Jesus Christ. It is a day of fast and abstinence.
Good Friday commemorates Jesus' trial in the Roman courts, His being sentenced to death, and His being tortured and humiliated, and Jesus' long journey to Golgotha (Calvary) outside Jerusalem, and His crucifixion and burial.
Jesus was crucified on the cross on the Calvary, and He died after crying out in a loud voice: "Father, in your hands I place my spirit!" (Lk 23:46) Jesus was buried in a tomb the same evening.
The Gospel references on Jesus' Passion, Crucifixion, and Death are: Matthew ch.27, Mark ch.15, Luke ch.23, and John ch.19
No Eucharist is celebrated on Good Friday. The services include Scripture readings, meditation on Jesus' sufferings, Way of the Cross, enactment of Jesus' passion, homilies, veneration of the cross, etc.
