Holy Week
Holy Week is the final week of Lent, the week that immediately precedes Easter Sunday. It is the week that is observed in Christian Churches as a time to commemorate the Passion of Christ - Jesus Christ's sufferings leading to His death and resurrection.
The Holy Week starts with Palm Sunday, takes us through Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday, the greatest festival of Resurrection of Jesus, which begins on a fresh week.
Palm Sunday denotes Jesus' triumphant entry into the town of Jerusalem. The crowd welcomed Jesus with Palm leaves and praises of "Hosanna".
On the following three days, according to the Gospels, Jesus taught and preached in the temple and in Jerusalem. In the meantime, Jesus enemies conspired against Him, and struck a deal with Judas to identify Jesus to them.
Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday is the day that denotes Jesus' last meal, and His washing the feet of His disciples, Jesus' institution of the Holy Eucharist or Holy Communion, Jesus' praying at Gethsemane, and Judas's betrayal of Jesus leading to His arrest by Roman soldiers.
Good Friday commemorates Jesus' trial in the Roman courts, His being sentenced to death, and His being tortured and humiliated, and His long journey to Golgotha (Calvary) outside Jerusalem, and His crucifixion, death on the cross, and burial.
Holy Saturday is the day Jesus rested in the tomb. This is a day of vigil, calm, quiet, and waiting, leading to Easter celebrations that begin after nightfall.
