Theology
-- Henry Ward Beecher
The term "theology" is popularly understood as the "study of God". Etymologically, the word has Greek origins because it is derived from the Greek roots -- "theos" meaning God and "logos" meaning science or study.
However, it is important to note that theology or study of God is only a mere attempt by humanity to understand God better, as nothing can fully explain the greatness of God. God is so great and His ways are so infinitely higher that no human being can understand Him completely or interpret His plans precisely.
Romans 11:33-36 says:
"For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor?"
"Or who has given him anything that he may be repaid?"
"For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen."
Theology can also be viewed as the interpretation of Scripture by making the Bible as the focus of the study. Bibliology, which comes under theology, is the study of the Bible. Biblical theology involves the study of a book of the Bible. Interpreting and practicing Christian faith is another aspect of theology.
Theology also includes the study of religion and faith - teachings and doctrines of religion, and foundations of faith.
"Theology is a science of mind applied to God." -- Henry Ward Beecher
"As the grace grows nearer, my theology is growing strangely simple, and it begins and ends with Christ as the only Savior of the lost."
-- Henry Benjamin Whipple
